Story Board

For this Project I decided to do a Book Trailer for a historical fiction book. It is about Emmett Till's Trial...a book called Mississippi Trial 1955 by Chris Crowe.

Copyright Critic

This is something that I find very important for me to pay attention to, because I have a habit of enjoying watching clips and such online for free since I don't have the money to own all the movies I want. I think that for many college students this is the case. And teachers are just as poor if not more so as they do not have much of a budget for their classroom, so knowing what you can and cannot do in a classroom is important.

While You Were Sleeping

So this video is technically only 10% of the film as it is 100 minutes long and this is only the first ten minutes, however this is posted on YouTube for public use and therefore is not really for educational purposes making the "Fair Use" more questionable. Another reason this is probably against the copyright laws is that the entire movie is online from the same person---just in 10 minute segments. That way each post is separately and technically okay, but it taken together by a court on copyright laws they would most likely have to remove all the videos and then be fined.

The only way to correct this would be to separate out a specific scene that you found amusing or informative and then put that clip online. Most likely as far as films go you would want to stick to more of the three minutes instead of 10% so that you don't fall under the same catch on accident.

All in all, I think what I have gathered is that just like it is with most things, the spirit of the law is more important than the letter of the law. If you follow the spirit or purpose of the law than chances are you will already have followed the letter of the law. So let's all be careful about what we use in the classroom, but also enjoy using what we can and will be beneficial to our students.

Starting

So I didn't ever think I would make one of these until I was married. Then when I have children to share with my family I will try to be good about this, but since I have a class I must do that for...

Here we go!
