So once again this blog is being used for class assignments, but this time it may be of more interest to you. It will now contain what my teacher calls the "Slice of Life."
Sour Cream and Potato Chips....odd yet satisfying.
It is one of those cold smooth foods mixed with the salty crunch that I find so addicting every time I start. It is very simple to create a joy such as this for yourself if you will just allow it. At the start of classes I find that those simple joys are the most important to retain if I am to keep the optimistic attitude of the summer. All summer we lay about in the sun and live an active care-free life over all and then the dreaded (I say dreaded as a stereotype because for many of us it is kind of an exciting thing to get back to a schedule and open our minds again) day of classes comes. For me I am going to remember a few things from summer that will keep those natural highs in my life: the occasional summer snack such as sour cream and potato chips, reading for fun even if I don't have much time for it, and sports night once a week with my ward.
These joys remind me of a list I was sent as a middle school students as a forwarded email that named 50 natural highs in life. Mostly little things like running through sprinklers and getting mail are listed, but the whole point is to make us think beyond the adrenaline rushes we watch in movies and hear about from people we admire and get us to appreciate life every single day. And that is just what I am doing today.
I like your idea of remembering summer. We might have a writing prompt about that this week! I, too, like contrasts: smooth and crunchy, salty and sweet (is that what makes M&M peanuts so irresistible?).
