Our final day in Venice was Sunday and we got up and went to church. Now as the LDS or Mormon Chapel was on the mainland and an hour drive in a car we were having trouble trying to figure out how to get there, so when during the week we passed a church that posted when they would have mass we decided to experience Italian mass instead. It was a beautiful service. The music was reverent and glorious and the church itself was a monument to Christ. I am sure I would have appreciated more if I could have understood it, but neither Aubrey nor I spoke any Italian (which drove her absolutely crazy: she determined to never again travel unless she could speak the language). We spent the rest of the morning sitting and enjoying the beauty all around us and the quiet as the tourists didn't come out until later.
Our Hostel
Our windows are on the second row on the far left :)
One of the fat chubby pigeons that are everywhere.
Also they all seem to be lame, this one had a gimp leg.
Around noon we headed back to San Marco and ate our lunch of good bread and canned tuna with our fingers and got rather sticky with fish juice (especially from opening the cans). This time we went inside the church which didn't cost any money but was absolutely overwhelming with gold. We also made friends with a cute older couple from New Zealand on a cruise. They thought we were wonderful to be traveling without a tour group and planning our own way. You can't take pictures inside, but here are some postcards to give you an idea.

Once we had finished enjoying the great basilica we headed back to our hostel and sat in the park enjoying the peace and quiet there, for now that the tourists were out and busy as bees. We studied scriptures and wrote in our journals and listened to Sunday music on our iPods and people watched. It was lovely. Finally when it got to hot we went inside and waited until evening when we would head back to the train station.
As we were waiting we realized we had both gotten very dark from a week in the sun and this was Aubrey's epic sandal tan lines. Oh so funny what can happen.
At the train station we got our dinner.
And we finally fulfilled our promise to Mum Brower to have some Italian Hot Chocolate.
It was amazingly thick, almost like pudding, but should be sold everywhere.
Certainly made us happy.
On to the sleeper train and off we went on our way to Paris.
